Dietary changes should
only be made on the advice of the attending veterinarian . These
changes are suggested if a dog has had a pattern of cramping
episodes and all diagnostic testing has been completed. Dietary
changes should be made slowly unless advised otherwise by the
attending veterinarian. Here are two suggested methods to use
when changing a dog's diet:
1. There might
be an incident where your veterinarian suggests that you change
your dog's diet to a prescribed diet in which case it is important
to follow his/her instructions as to how to introduce this
prescribed food into your dog's diet. He/she might advise you to
change to the prescribed diet all at once depending on the dog's
condition.
2. If your vet does not feel the need
to change the prescribed diet all at once, then he most likely
would suggest you introduce the new diet by increasing amounts
of your pet's new food with decreasing amounts of the old food
over a 7-day period. |
