June 6th 2005: The 2005 National Border Terrier Specialty is now behind
us and it was a great success for many reasons:
-
165 Border Terriers participated
in the first National blood draw for DNA. The DNA will be stored at
the University of Missouri free of charge, and can be used
currently, or in the future for the purpose of finding markers for
genetic disorders/diseases. There were already 85 samples previously
stored in which DNA was extracted from affected dogs or 'family
members' of affected dogs.
-
56 dogs had OFA
Certification examinations
78 dogs had CERF examinations
-
CECS Seminar was conducted by Mark
Leichty, DVM.
Dr. Leichty, with the assistance of Kris Blake created a handout
that explains the most recent findings regarding CECS. This handout
can be viewed in its entirety by clicking on this
LINK TO CECS SEMINAR HANDOUT. A .pdf
file is provide on the CECS handout page that will allow you to
download or print this document.
- Phenome Project Seminar was conducted by Liz Hansen of the
Animal Molecular Laboratory at the University of Missouri. This
fascinating seminar gave us a chance to see how DNA can be used to
find markers for genetic disorders/disease. You can visit the
Phenome Project web site
at www.caninephenome.org.
